Susan Kare Apple Pirate Flag

Susan Kare Apple Pirate Flag

"It's better to be a pirate than to join the Navy." Steve Jobs opened the Mac team's January 1983 retreat with these words, hoping to retain a rebel spirit within the growing group. Later that year, the team was forced to relocate to a larger building, and programmer Steve Capps had the bright idea of flying a pirate flag above the building in a show of solidarity. While Capps sewed the black cloth for the flag, it was designer Susan Kare who painted the skull and crossbones, finished off with a rainbow Apple logo eyepatch. The original flew over the building for more than a year and has since been lost — but now you have a chance to purchase one of your own. Hand-painted by Susan Kare in her California studio, each flag measures 3' x 5', is meant for indoor display only, and is limited to a maximum of 500 examples, all of which will be slightly unique in appearance.
